KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 (Bernama)-- Towards efforts to enhance Malaysia's position
as the global halal hub, the Halal Malaysia Week 2011 will emphasise the Incoming Buying
Mission programme.

More quality exporters and participants are also expected
at the event from April 4-9 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade)
deputy chief executive officer, Datuk Mohamad Kamarudin Hassan said, the Halal
Malaysia Week is also aimed at
expanding the growth of the global halal industry through business matching, a
trade exhibition, forum and research.

He said Matrade would leverage on the Halal Malaysia Week
by organising the 8th Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) from April
6-9 at the same venue.

"This year, we are targeting more quality exhibitors
for this event, and encourage both local and foreign export-ready producers to
participate," he told a press conference at the joint launch of the Halal
Malaysia Week 2011.

Besides MIHAS, the annual Halal Malaysia Week also
includes the World Halal Research Summit (WHR) and World Halal Forum (WHF).

According to Mohamad Kamarudin, MIHAS 2011 is targeting
to bring in 514 exhibitors from 32 countries.

Over the past seven years, MIHAS has succeeded in
creating extensive business opportunities and networking for various halal
industry players worldwide.

For 2010, sales generated during the event, stood at
RM70.9 million and potential sales was RM1.15 billion.

The top five product or service sectors sourced by buyers
last year were palm oil based
products, processed food and beverages, confectionary, pharmaceuticals,
cosmetics and skin care products.

Among the top ten countries with the highest sourcing
value were the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Ukraine, Australia, Japan, Morocco,
Singapore, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong and South Africa.
