KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia External
Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) has lined up 113 programmes this year
that will feature new initiatives in export promotion and exporters'
development programmes, its Chairman Datuk Mah Siew Keong said Wednesday.

The Work Programme For 2011, under which all the
programmes will be conducted, will include trade fairs, specialised marketing
missions and joint promotions that will focus on growing markets that offer
favourable access.

It will also look at diversifying opportunities in
traditional markets like the United States, he said.

The programme will also include integrating Malaysian
vendors into the global supply chain, branding of Malaysian professional
services and implementation of more ICT-based initiatives.

He said new markets like the Middle East, China and
Eastern Europe would also be major highlights to further strengthen small-and
medium-scale entrepreneurs' exports.

As part of Matrade's branding efforts, three special
projects -- Malaysia Services Exhibition, Intrade and Mihas -- will be
continued this year.

For exporters development, more than 40 training and
outreach programmes will be conducted to enable new exporters to penetrate the
global market, while encouraging more SMEs participation, while helping to
boost the country's trade.

"It is resilience and tenacity that enabled Malaysia
to achieve a remarkable recovery in trade. We are confident that with our
continued efforts, we will weather the storm for 2011 onwards," Matrade's
Chief Executive Officer Datuk Noharuddin Nordin said.

The country's trade for January-November 2010 surpassed
the RM1 trillionth mark, registering 19.4 per cent growth to RM1.06 trillion
compared with the same period in 2009.

"With all programmes in place and continuous efforts
by the government we are optimistic we can outbeat the 2010 trade figures this
year," Noharuddin said.

also currently holding up its position fairly well as one
of the vibrant trading centres in the region, he said, adding that all parties
should also work together to be more effective.
